Podium Effect
In a collaboration with Rebecca Eskilsson we questioned and reflected on staring and being stared at by creating a simple platform to experience the being of a sculpture. Inspired by our theory class on the theory of the gaze, I remembered a game I had played as a kid: I’m sitting in a bus, staring at random people, hoping for them to look at me, initiating the game „who looks away first loses“. Intrigued by British biologist Rupert Sheldrake’s theory on „The Sense of Being Stared At“, we created an artwork where the boundaries between object and sculpture, installation and performance would dissolve through a photoseries and intervention in a group exhibition titled “Eye See You“ in the Rotterdam-based gallery Not in New York.
