The Darkside

Set in a city that never sees daylight, The Darkside follows a male detective on a journey to save his life from a deadly virus. The short film explores how popular movie genres (b-movies, horror, fantastic, etc.) can be used to penetrate and impact the viewer’s awareness via the porosity of self-identification with character-archetypes. In this take on the classic pulp detective story, the viewer is led towards a stereotypical portrayal of the male protagonist. However, as the story unfolds, the character reveals contradictions, questioning traditional gender narratives.
