a generous cook in a greasy kitchen

The issue with linearity is that it’s so straight. How about we play the remix version; the one with multiple chorusses and various featuring artists? Let’s add reverbs that reach across centuries and instruments that are unheard of. Let’s riff off each other for a while. Call it a jam session. You should come to the open mic night. Let’s sing about histories. Which histories shall we remember? If art history attempts to follow a straight line forward, Caz Egelie’s works offer a gentle swerve. A roaming around artists and works of cultural significance, their presence within the network of history and moreover, their influence on artists today. The works from the past five years of Egelie’s practice share the wish to delve freely in art history and its motives. Where others work with clay or paint, Egelie considers art history as one of their materials. Few materials are as mouldable as history itself. excerpt from text by Helena Julian
