Unfold Regionale 2025
Department
Studio for Immediate SpacesThe Regionale 2025 Bergisches Rheinland program aims to modernize the region’s infrastructure through innovative projects. To symbolize its mission, the program commissioned a folding chair design for physical and digital use. Rather than creating a standardized product, I developed the open-source concept Unfold, which promotes diversity and local craftsmanship. Instead of a singular chair design, Unfold encourages each project or company to craft its unique version, reflecting its identity. This process fosters empowerment and collaboration, transforming the chair into a tool for storytelling. A potential video series documenting these creations adds engagement and connection, offering more recognition than a uniform chair. The design is simple and versatile, requiring minimal tools and materials. Components can be cut by hand, assembled with screws or nails, and adjusted for various forms, including benches. This adaptability ensures accessibility and aligns with the program's commitment to innovation and inclusion.
