YA Food Storage
Department
Studio for Immediate SpacesThe Storage System for Food focuses on properly storing fruits and vegetables outside of the fridge and decorative fruit bowls. This piece of furniture aims to bring awareness to the importance of food storage and encourage conscious consumption. As the world faces environmental and social crises driven by factory farming, reducing animal-based foods has become essential. The design of YA promotes this shift by creating a positive platform for plant-based foods. The adjustable rods in the system allow for easy storage of fruits and vegetables, promoting awareness that too much food is unnecessarily refrigerated. Many items lose flavor and nutrients in the fridge, while others can be stored at room temperature if eaten in time. By reintroducing traditional storage methods, like burying root vegetables in sand, the system encourages a more mindful, sensory approach to food, considering its quality, origin, and consumption.
