Martijn Engelbregt, Director of finished Temporary Programme Cure Master (2014-2016) participated in exhibition Dutch Art with Text & Humor? NO THANKS!, at AG HKU, Utrecht (NL), 8 August - 21 September 2019.
Dutch Art with Text & Humor? NO THANKS! was a group exhibition with work by eighteen Dutch-speaking visual artists in which text and humor play an important role. With the help of these elements the participating artists take a position with regard to various social issues and with regard to the art world in particular. Often use is made of existing texts and everyday statements that are taken from their original context and are turned into visual statements, for example in the form of protest signs, light boxes, posters, flags or sweaters, but also with pencil on paper and paint on canvas.
Dutch Art with Text & Humor? NO THANKS! asks the question what place humor takes in contemporary visual art, and also investigates the dividing line between 'art' and 'no-art' in different forms and contexts.
Dutch Art with Text & Humor? NO THANKS! is composed by visual artist, HKU alumnus and teacher Bas Fontein . Part of the exhibition is a gift shop, where a multiple of most participating artists can be purchased.
