Nothing that my flame could not reach
“We don't need help from hurricanes. Let whirlwinds do what they can. For though they may cause their share of pains, the most frightening force is man.” With this installation ‘Nothing that my flame couldn’t reach’ we invite you to look at one of the most powerful forces on earth; humankind. Humankind that destroys, creates, falls and rises. We can create from our own destructiveness and in creating we destruct. . Important in the genesis of this force is the human urge of social gathering and forming of societies. In the process of forming societies human beings claim and create territories and build structures of power. As we see in the opera Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny this topic is more urgent than ever. In creating societies we face different layers of powers such as money and institutions and tend to lose the connection of our own strong forces. With this installation we try to grasp the unavoidable relation between the deconstructing and constructing force of human. Through the use of visual archive material, maker’s own footage and a soundscape inspired by the opera Aufstieg und Fall, we invite you to experience the power of the human force."
