Nota Benen

Nieke Koek is an interdisciplinary artist. She works on the perception of the body. For the showcases at Q-art in the Amsterdam UMC, she was inspired by conversations with patients from the rehabilitation department. Subjects emerged about the sensations of the leg. Tingling, buzzing, pain and numbness have been used in the concept of the leg as automata. The leg automata placed here, on the other hand, shows the challenge of gaining control over how the leg is experienced. Nieke is fascinated by the physical sensations of the body. Through her works she hopes to poetically appeal to the imagination and enrich the physical experience.
